how great thou art

“你真伟大”这首诗歌的歌词，最初是一首瑞典的抒情诗，名为"O, Store Gud" 。是由牧师卡尔 博伯格在1886年访问瑞典东南沿海的一个美丽的乡村小郡受灵感激发时所写下的。

在一个正午，乡村天空中突然伴随着强烈威猛的闪电，袭来阵阵狂吼的雷鸣声，紧接着天空显出了明亮、闪耀的太阳，随后在一片平静中牧师卡尔博伯格听到了他附近树上的小鸟唱出甜美的歌。他被眼前的景象深深震撼。

这个经历促使牧师谦卑地屈膝下拜全能的上帝。并根据这个奇妙的体验他写下了9节诗，许多年以后，在一个会议上，人们吃惊地听到了他的诗和着一首老瑞典民歌的曲调被唱出来了。

后来在1925年一个美国人照字面的意思翻译成德语，名为“哦，全能的上帝，当我看到奇迹”。这首歌在1927年也由德语翻译成俄语。传道士斯图亚特海恩，受灵感启发把这首歌的俄语翻译和俄罗斯令人敬畏喀尔巴阡山脉的壮丽景观相结合，写出了前三段英文歌词，二战后完成第四段歌词。

这首赞美诗是比尔 葛培理在伦敦布道期间由George Beverly Shea演唱而著名。
